INTER-
Between. Among. Together.
The spaces between us. How we connect, relate, express ourselves, build community, and move through the world.
ABOUT INTERA
INTERA is a community-informed initiative helping Two-Spirit, Trans, Gender Diverse, and questioning people explore gender, access affirming resources, and find practical support.
We bring together education, navigation, gender-affirming gear, community connection, and practical tools designed to make exploration more accessible, informed, and supported.
LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
INTERA acknowledges that our work takes place on Treaty 6 territory, a traditional gathering place and home for many Indigenous Peoples, including Cree, Saulteaux, Blackfoot, Métis, Dene, Nakota Sioux, and Inuit peoples.
As an initiative centred on gender diversity, we recognize that diverse understandings of gender, identity, kinship, and community existed across Indigenous Nations long before colonization. Colonialism did not introduce gender diversity to these lands. Colonial systems imposed European binaries of gender and sexuality and sought to suppress Indigenous identities, traditions, and ways of knowing.
We honour Two-Spirit people and the distinct identities, roles, teachings, and traditions held within individual Nations and communities. We also recognize the leadership and resistance of Two-Spirit and Indigenous queer and trans people in movements for gender diversity, bodily autonomy, liberation, and Indigenous sovereignty.
We understand acknowledgement as part of an ongoing responsibility to relationship, learning, accountability, and action.

WHO WE ARE
INTERA is a community-informed initiative created to make gender-affirming education, resources, support, and practical tools easier to understand and access.
Our work is centred on Trans, Gender Diverse, and questioning people, while also supporting families, caregivers, service providers, and communities that want to build more affirming environments.
INTERA brings together gender gear education and access, navigation and peer support, community learning, practical resources, and opportunities for people to explore gender in ways that are informed, self-directed, and grounded in everyday life.
BY US. FOR US.
INTERA is shaped by lived experience, community knowledge, professional expertise, and ongoing collaboration with the people and communities the initiative is intended to support.
WHY INTERA?
INTER-
Between. Among. Together.
The spaces between us. How we connect, relate, express ourselves, build community, and move through the world.
INTRA-
Within. Inside. Our Self.
Our inner experience. How we understand and experience identity, gender, embodiment, belonging, and ourselves.
INTERA exists where the two meet. It reflects the process of bringing what we know and experience within ourselves into how we express, embody, connect, and live in the world around us.
WHAT GUIDES US
We believe meaningful relationships create safer communities, stronger support networks, and a deeper sense of belonging.
We respect every person's right to make informed decisions about their own body, identity, and journey.
We are committed to reducing barriers through inclusive, accessible, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive services.
We embrace lifelong learning, curiosity, collaboration, and continuous improvement - for ourselves, our organization, and our community.
WHAT INTERA OFFERS
INTERA brings together education, connection, access, and practical support so people can explore what they need, when they need it, and move forward in ways that feel right for them.
EXPLORE
Access trusted information, educational resources, and practical guidance.
CONNECT
Meet with peers or professionals to ask questions, explore options, and receive personalized support.
ACCESS
Find practical pathways to gender-affirming gear, resources, fittings, and other forms of support.
EMBODY
Build confidence, make informed decisions, and continue your journey at your own pace.
There is no single path through INTERA. You can begin wherever makes sense for you and move between education, support, access, and exploration as your needs change.
HOW WE WORK
INTERA is designed to support people with information, connection, practical resources, and opportunities to make informed choices about their own lives.
GUIDE
We provide practical, evidence-informed education and guidance so people can better understand their options, ask informed questions, and decide what may work for them.
CONNECT
We help people connect with peers, professionals, resources, organizations, and communities that can provide meaningful support along the way.
EMPOWER
We support people in building knowledge, confidence, and practical skills so they can make decisions about their own bodies, identities, goals, and journeys.
ADVOCATE
We work to identify and reduce barriers that limit access to gender-affirming information, resources, support, safety, participation, and community.
Support should expand possibility, not prescribe a path. INTERA exists to help people understand their options, access meaningful resources, and move forward in ways that reflect their own needs and priorities.
OUR STRUCTURE & PARTNERSHIPS
INTERA is community-led and supported by organizations that play distinct roles in governance, administration, financial oversight, community access, and funding.
COMMUNITY GOVERNANCE
INTERA is guided by an independent Steering Committee made up of Two Spirit, Trans, and Gender Diverse community members representing a broad spectrum of ages, backgrounds, gender experiences, and lived experiences.
The Steering Committee provides community leadership, guidance, and oversight to help ensure INTERA remains responsive to the people and communities it exists to serve.
Community voice is not an add-on to INTERA. It is built into how the initiative is guided and held accountable.
ORGANIZATIONAL & FINANCIAL SUPPORT
GRANT STEWARD
Provides organizational and administrative stewardship for INTERA and its funded activities.
FISCAL AGENT
Provides financial administration and oversight supporting responsible stewardship of INTERA project funds.
COMMUNITY ACCESS & FUNDING
COMMUNITY ACCESS & DISTRIBUTION PARTNER
Supports community-based access to and distribution of gender-affirming gear.
FUNDING SUPPORT
INTERA is supported through the City of Edmonton's Beyond Belonging Grant Program.
INDEPENDENT COMMUNITY EQUITY PARTNER
ACCOUNTABILITY IN PRACTICE
INTERA is proud to work with Shades of Colour as our independent Community Equity Partner.
Shades of Colour provides meaningful guidance, mentorship, and oversight to help us examine how equity, anti-racism, accessibility, and intersectionality are reflected in our decisions, programs, resources, and relationships.
This partnership creates an independent layer of accountability beyond our own team. It helps us identify gaps, challenge assumptions, and remain responsive to the communities our work is intended to serve.
Meaningful accountability requires relationships with people who can question our decisions, identify where we need to do better, and help us continue learning.
LOOKING TO THE FUTURE
INTERA is a new and growing initiative. What you see here is a foundation, not a finished product.
We are continuing to build our educational resources, expand access to gender-affirming supports, strengthen community partnerships, and learn from the people who use and shape INTERA.
As needs change and our community teaches us more, INTERA will continue to grow with them.
Our goal is not simply to build more. It is to keep building what is meaningful, useful, and accountable to the communities INTERA exists to serve.
